AB 130: Independent Study (Kern Learn Extension) Information Independent Study (Kern Learn Extension). The parents and/or guardians of all Kern High School District students have the option to enroll their student in in-person instruction or independent study during the 2021–22 school year. For students whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction (as determined by the parent/guardian), the Kern Learn Extension program is the independent study option for the 2021-2022 school year.
